Historic Warehouse District

Speicherstadt, Hamburg, Deutschland

The Speicherstadt district contains the world’s largest historic warehouse complex and is among the most beloved sights of Hamburg. Together with the adjacent Kontorhaus district, Speicherstadt was awarded the UNESCO World Heritage status in 2015.

Gothic red-brick buildings, canals and bridges make up the heart of Hamburg’s historic port area. The warehouse district comprises more than 300,000 sqm of storage space where high-value goods such as coffee, tea, cocoa, spices, tobacco and, in recent decades, oriental carpets have been stored before being shipped and sold all over the world – even up to this day. In addition to its architectural highlights, tourism venues such as Hamburg Dungeon, the Speicherstadt museum and Miniatur Wunderland – the world’s largest miniature railway – make the Speicherstadt one of Hamburg’s tourism hotspots.

Visit the oldest and one of the most photographed buildings in the historic warehouse district: the Wasserschloss Speicherstadt (lit: water castle). Join us as the 360° drone Spherie takes flight through the Speicherstadt warehouse district and the “water castle” itself.
